Tenable®, Inc. the Exposure Management company, today announced that KLab K.K., a global player in online mobile games, has chosen Tenable Vulnerability Management to improve its overall visibility of assets and get insight into the latest vulnerability information to share with game publishers and business partners.
KLab, has been developing online mobile games for players globally since the flip phone era in 2009. Its games are available in 155 countries and regions worldwide. Having been in the gaming industry for over a decade, KLab has maintained its rank as one of the top 52 game publishers since 2012. KLab found themselves challenged by the need to implement vulnerability countermeasures to discover vulnerabilities in all assets continuously.
“We are often subject to surveys and interviews about KLab’s cybersecurity measures when we do business with companies that hold copyright and other intellectual properties,” said Hiroshi Kihira, Information Systems Group, Engineering Division, KLab. “In order to gain trust, it is important that the vulnerability management process, including the vulnerability scanner, is well established and effective in continuously generating newly published vulnerability information on a daily basis. It’s for this reason that we chose Tenable as our vulnerability management provider. ”
KLab selected Tenable Vulnerability Management primarily because the solution is effective in identifying hidden vulnerabilities in KLab's environment. It was also important for KLab to choose a vulnerability management solution that is cloud-based. On-premises servers typically require man-hours for maintenance and management, and vulnerability countermeasures are also necessary when the management user interface (UI) is a web service. It was critical for KLab to maximize the efficiency of its resources and allow a reduction in workload for the security team.
Tenable Vulnerability Management has been highly effective in identifying hidden vulnerabilities in KLab’s environment as well. Many hardware management tools for servers and software products that function as consoles have various middleware embedded and configured in their structure, including Java-based applications and Tomcat web servers. When dealing with the Log4j vulnerability, KLab found that they needed to scan not only products that they developed but also these tools to see how they were affected.
“Tenable Vulnerability Management provides detection of these hidden vulnerabilities and delivers clear reporting. These updates give us peace of mind to know we’re on the right track in reducing our cyber risk,” said Kihira.
With many of KLab’s projects built and operated in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud, Tenable’s Frictionless Assessment feature is proving itself in delivering effective utilization of resources and cost reduction. It continuously discovers and assesses EC2 instances for vulnerabilities without ever having to configure a scan, manage credentials or install agents. “EC2 instances are frequently launched and deleted. We were initially concerned that assets would be wasted through this process. However, after using the Frictionless Assessment feature, we were able to reuse the EC2 instance for other things the day after it was deleted. This is a very effective feature in terms of cost-effectiveness,” said Tomoaki Fude, Technology Public Relations Group, Infrastructure Group, Engineering Division.
“In today’s cybersecurity landscape, blindspots exist within any organization and must be illuminated to be eliminated,” said Naoya Kishima, country manager, Tenable Japan. “KLab is a shining example of an organization that has recognized the importance of proactively strengthening its cybersecurity posture and gaining the trust of those it is doing business with. Tenable is proud to help KLab reduce its risk with exposure management and stay abreast of the latest vulnerability updates.”
