Synopsis

The remote device is missing a vendor-supplied security patch.

Description

According to its self-reported version, the Cisco IOS XE software running on the remote device is affected by an unauthorized access vulnerability in the NTP subsystem due to a failure to check the authorization of certain NTP packets. An unauthenticated, remote attacker can exploit this issue, via specially crafted NTP packets, to control the time of the remote device.

Solution

Upgrade to the relevant fixed version referenced in Cisco bug ID CSCux46898.
