Oracle Linux 5 / 6 : Unbreakable Enterprise kernel (ELSA-2011-2038)

high Nessus Plugin ID 68426

Synopsis

The remote Oracle Linux host is missing one or more security updates.

Description

The remote Oracle Linux 5 / 6 host has packages installed that are affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the ELSA-2011-2038 advisory.

- The Generic Receive Offload (GRO) implementation in the Linux kernel 2.6.18 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and 2.6.32 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, as used in Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization (RHEV) Hypervisor and other products, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service via crafted VLAN packets that are processed by the napi_reuse_skb function, leading to (1) a memory leak or (2) memory corruption, a different vulnerability than CVE-2011-1478. (CVE-2011-1576)

- The Linux kernel before 3.2.2 does not properly restrict SG_IO ioctl calls, which allows local users to bypass intended restrictions on disk read and write operations by sending a SCSI command to (1) a partition block device or (2) an LVM volume. (CVE-2011-4127)

- Array index error in the rose_parse_national function in net/rose/rose_subr.c in the Linux kernel before 2.6.39 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (heap memory corruption) or possibly have unspecified other impact by composing FAC_NATIONAL_DIGIS data that specifies a large number of digipeaters, and then sending this data to a ROSE socket. (CVE-2011-1493)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected packages.
