Ubuntu 4.10 : tetex-bin vulnerability (USN-51-1)

high Nessus Plugin ID 20669

Synopsis

The remote Ubuntu host is missing one or more security-related patches.

Description

Javier Fernandez-Sanguino Pena noticed that 'xdvizilla', an auxiliary script to integrate DVI file viewing in Mozilla-based browsers, created temporary files and directories in an insecure manner. This could allow a symbolic link attack to create or overwrite arbitrary files with the privileges of the user invoking the program.

Note that Tenable Network Security has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory. Tenable has attempted to automatically clean and format it as much as possible without introducing additional issues.

Solution

Update the affected libkpathsea-dev, libkpathsea3 and / or tetex-bin packages.
