Ubuntu 14.04 LTS : PyYAML vulnerability (USN-2461-3)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 80474

Synopsis

The remote Ubuntu host is missing a security update.

Description

Stanislaw Pitucha and Jonathan Gray discovered that PyYAML did not properly handle wrapped strings. An attacker could create specially crafted YAML data to trigger an assert, causing a denial of service.

Note that Tenable Network Security has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory. Tenable has attempted to automatically clean and format it as much as possible without introducing additional issues.

Solution

Update the affected python-yaml and / or python3-yaml packages.
