Synopsis

The remote device is missing a vendor-supplied security patch.

Description

According to its self-reported version, the Cisco IOS XR software running on the remote device is affected by a privilege escalation vulnerability in the command line interface due to incorrect permission settings on binary files. A local attacker can exploit this, via specially crafted commands, to overwrite binary files on the filesystem and thereby gain elevated root privileges.

Note that this vulnerability only affects Linux-based versions of Cisco IOS XR software.

Solution

Upgrade to the relevant fixed version referenced in Cisco bug ID CSCvb99384.
